A little while, some friends and I decided to meet up for dinner at Ocha2Go, the little sibling to the highly popular Ocha restaurant. I’d been wanting to try it for a while, since Ocha has such a huge cult following and a 3-month waiting list to match.
The place is fairly small, offering modern Japanese food for both lunch and dinner. They have a good selection of sushi rolls available from a cabinet as you walk through the door, which instantly gives the place a relaxed vibe.
We decided to share the gyoza ($9.50 for 6) to start, at Miss F’s request.
Simply served with a little soy and parsley to garnish, while nothing ground-breaking they were indeed delicious. Our next course, a salad of steamed chicken with cucumber, carrot, walkame and snow pea shoots in a sesame dressing ($8.00) arrived swiftly after.
I love the dressing the Japanese use in salads like this. It’s so sweet and tangy, I’d love the recipe.. The chicken was tender, and the ratio of dressing:ingredients just right.
For the main dishes, we shared the sukiyaki ($15.50), thin pieces of beef cooked in sukiyaki sauce with mungbean noodles, carrots, zucchini & tofu. Please excuse the photo – I was a little hungry and couldn’t help myself before I remembered to take a photo! While a little mean on the tofu (we only got 2 pieces!), there was a good amount of meat and vege. We also shared the teriyaki chicken ($13.50) which I thought was a little light on flavour, and came accompanied by a lot of vegetables.
These were perhaps better suited as individual dishes, rather than to share, given that each had a good ratio of meat:vege for one person.
Overall, I was happy with our visit. The food was very reasonably priced given the pedigree of the place. Would definitely visit again.
