Recently, Bf-B and I discovered Commercial Bakery on Little Collins St. Formerly a truck garage, it’s run by Con Christopoulos (Siglo, Syracuse and Journal). Offering a great range of baked goods including pies, cakes, pastries, and sandwiches as well as loaves, they’re open for breakfast and lunch 6 days a week. After 12PM, the space at the back is also shared with Gill’s Diner, which provides a dinner menu.
We’ve made a habit of visiting weekdays before work for breakfast when it’s not too busy. On this occasion, both Bf-B and I began with coffee: strong and smooth, a great start to the day!
To eat, Bf-B ordered a serve of poached eggs with a side of bacon and spinach. He happily devoured it, citing it’s among the “best bacon ever”. High praise indeed!
I meanwhile, spied the roasted capsicum and goats cheese omelette on the menu. I figure since they have a few cheeses on offer it’ll be good. And it was. The cheese was deliciously creamy and was matched well by the roast capsicum. Not sure about the little salad garnish on the side though..
We both love Commercial Bakery. There is always a queue of people waiting for coffee out front which is a good sign, and I’ve found the waiters very friendly and chatty. Worth a visit for a quick meal or for takeaway. If you visit mid-week, you’ll probably see Bf-B and I sitting out back..
